National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

October is National Month.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, but there are several types of breast cancer; it is not one single disease. It can be diagnosed at different stages of development and can grow at different rates. Breast cancer is also a complex disease and it is difficult to predict what course it will take in each person.

Most cases are in women but men can be diagnosed with breast cancer too, although this is rare.

The biggest risk factors for developing breast cancer are getting older, being female and, for a few, having a significant family history of the disease. Earlier detection, increased knowledge and understanding of the biology of breast cancer and better treatments mean that survival rates after a diagnosis of breast cancer are improving.
